About the Journal

Updates in Medicine and Innovation (UMI) Medical Journal is a peer-reviewed, open-access journal published by the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Muslim Indonesia, Makassar, Indonesia. Established in 2016, UMJ provides a scholarly platform for the dissemination of scientific research and academic contributions in medicine and health sciences. The journal publishes original research articles, review articles, and interesting case reports that contribute to the development of biomedical knowledge, clinical practice, and public health.

The acronym UMI stands for Updates Medicine Innovation, reflecting the journal’s vision of disseminating up-to-date scientific findings, innovations, and developments in the medical field. Through the publication of relevant and scientifically grounded work, UMJ seeks to support the advancement of medical knowledge and encourage scholarly exchange among researchers and healthcare professionals.

UMJ covers a broad range of topics in medicine and health sciences, encompassing basic biomedical sciences, clinical medicine, and community and public health research. Its scope includes investigations into the biological mechanisms of health and disease, clinical diagnosis and management, therapeutic approaches, medical laboratory and diagnostic research, nutrition and metabolism, reproductive and maternal health, and health issues affecting individuals and communities. The journal considers research involving both human participants and animals, as well as appropriate experimental, laboratory-based, computational, clinical, and population-based approaches.

The journal welcomes contributions from biomedical scientists, clinicians, public health researchers, medical and health science academics, and other healthcare professionals. UMJ aims to provide these contributors with a forum to communicate research findings, share clinical and scientific insights, and support evidence-informed developments in medicine and healthcare. The journal’s areas of interest include nutrition and obstetrics and gynecology, including gynecologic oncology, while remaining open to relevant contributions from other medical and health science disciplines.

UMJ is published twice a year, in June and December. The journal is registered under e-ISSN 2685-7561 and p-ISSN 2548-4079 (ISSN-L 2548-4079). As an open-access journal, UMJ makes its published research available to readers to facilitate the dissemination and accessibility of scientific knowledge.

Language Policy

Starting from Volume 10 Issue 2 and subsequent issues, manuscripts submitted to UMJ must be written in English. Manuscripts submitted in Indonesian will not be processed and will be rejected during the initial editorial screening. Authors are advised to ensure that their manuscripts comply with this language requirement before submission.

UMJ is committed to publishing scholarly contributions that are relevant to medicine and health sciences and that support the continued development of biomedical research, clinical understanding, and public health.
